If you're annoyed by hot handles, you may find it quite useful. The idea is to hold the cup tightly right below the lip. Will work with any vessel that has any lip around its top rim.
Here is the scheme:
And implementation:
I used 1mm thick aluminum piece. I've cut it before knowing that it can be a cup hanger, in ideal world it wouldn't have any mark at the top bending point. It holds the cup really well. I mean it's even too tight - it scratches walls of the pot a bit.
It's also worth writing that the hanger stores really well if the top angle is close to 90 degrees.

So simple. BCB do a similar thing for their crusader cups, but more expensive Im sure. Great idea...
ReplyDeleteI've tested this idea thoroughly, and it just didn't work for me as well as I'd want. Still it's good, just can be made better. I usually try not to modify a store-bought items, and the handle shown here, if made well, won't even scratch the pot. But with this kind of lip I'd make an exception, and if I'll ever get back to using a canteen cup (quite possibly I will), I'd make myself a simple, partially locking bail handle, similar to what's shown here: http://www.raymears.com/blog/crusader-cup-hanger-modifications/1721/
